PHILIPS SEMICONDUCTOR MANILA PLANT

Guided by the Philips’ philosophy of “doing things better”, this semiconductor facility was designed and constructed to house the expansion and modernization of the production facilities of Philips Semiconductor Philippines, Inc. (PSPI), after its transfer from Las Piñas to an 8.8 hectare site in Cabuyao. It has a total floor area of about 30,900 square meters and includes a Production Building, a Canteen abutting the Production building, an Administration building, an Energy Building and Chemical Stores.

The Production Building has an 18 x 28 meter columnation on an 84 x 216 meter footprint. It is a steel-framed one-storey structure with mezzanines along each longitudinal side for utilities equipment. The two-storey Administration Building is made of reinforced concrete. Its lobby is dominated by a dome-shaped skylight with a sun baffle that produces colors resembling a Filipino Lantern.

Housed in the Energy Building are a 6-MVA power substation, two low RPM prime power diesel gensets, and the central chilled water plant. A 350-TR absorption chiller using recovered waste heat from the gensets supplies a portion of the cooling requirement of the facility.

RNFA was selected from among other firms to provide project management covering total engineering and architectural design as well as construction management services. The entire project was substantially completed in sixteen (16) months.
