PHILIPS SEMICONDUCTOR MANILA PLANT

Guided by the Philips’ philosophy of “doing things better”, this semiconductor facility was designed and constructed to house the expansion and modernization of the production facilities of Philips Semiconductor Philippines, Inc. (PSPI), after its transfer from Las Piñas to an 8.8 hectare site in Cabuyao. It has a total floor area of about 30,900 square meters and includes a Production Building, a Canteen abutting the Production building, an Administration building, an Energy Building and Chemical Stores.

The Production Building has an 18 x 28 meter columnation on an 84 x 216 meter footprint. It is a steel-framed one-storey structure with mezzanines along each longitudinal side for utilities equipment. The two-storey Administration Building is made of reinforced concrete. Its lobby is dominated by a dome-shaped skylight with a sun baffle that produces colors resembling a Filipino Lantern.

Housed in the Energy Building are a 6-MVA power substation, two low RPM prime power diesel gensets, and the central chilled water plant. A 350-TR absorption chiller using recovered waste heat from the gensets supplies a portion of the cooling requirement of the facility.

RNFA was selected from among other firms to provide project management covering total engineering and architectural design as well as construction management services. The entire project was substantially completed in sixteen (16) months.

PENN PHILIPPINES NEW DYE HOUSE

This project involved the construction of a dye house plant that would serve textile operations of Penn Philippines. The said company transferred its plant from FTI to LIIP to satisfy its water supply requirements.

The plant itself is composed of three buildings, namely: the production building, the utilities building and the waste water treatment plant. These covering a total area of 11,316 square meters.

The structure of the buildings include a combination of steel and concrete columns; the lower portions being composed of concrete, with steel constituting the upper parts. Furthermore, the roofing is made of sandwich panels which have the advantage of built-in insulation and easy installation.

RNFA produced the master plan of the entire project and provided detailed design, as well as, overall construction management of Phase 1. And the project was accomplished with 725,106 man-hours, yet without any accidents or time lost.

ANALOG DESIGN AND RECREATION CENTERS

The project consist of a covered basketball court and a two-storey Recreation Building for the employees of ON SEMICONDUCTOR (formerly Motorola Philippines, Inc.) The Recreation Building has recreational facilities on the ground floor and an Analog Design Center on the second floor.

The covered basketball court has floor area of 821 square meters while the Recreation Building has 1,100 square meters. A two level vaulted roof on the space framed trusses serves to provide natural light and ventilation for the basketball court. On the other hand, the design of the curtain wall of the Recreation Building complements the existing building of this semiconductor facility.

Implementation of the project done in three phases. Phase 1 involved the relocation of an existing service gate and the construction of an open basketball court. Phase 2 involved the construction of the Recreational Buildings and Phase 3 the construction of the roof over the basketball court.

The project was substantially completed in a span of eleven months of non-continuous construction.

RNFA prepared the architectural and engineering design for the project and managed the construction.

IOM Community Center & Evacuation Center – Guiuan

In 2014, a year after a most powerful 315 kph typhoon Haiyan ( locally known as Yolanda) made landfall in Guiuan Eastern Samar in the Philippines, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) embarked on a program to build resilient facilities that provided for community protection during evacuation in times of disaster and subsequent recovery. These buildings are right-sized for the community population by selecting from two models, namely a 1,500 m2 or a 750 m2 built-up area. During normal times that do not require the building’s use as an evacuation center, its use is mainly as a community center for the locality

This project in Guiuan was IOM’s first Community Center & Evacuation Center designed together with RNFA. It is a 750 m2 two-storey reinforced concrete structure with structural steel roof framing. The building was designed to withstand winds of 320 kph and earthquake resistance to meet seismic zone 4. Water storage was also incorporated in the facility as part of provisioning for recovery and rehabilitation. Many of the concepts adopted in the design of this facility were taken from the lessons learned in post-disaster studies of typhoon Haiyan.

On April 19, 2016, IOM’s completed Community Center & Evacuation Center was turned over to the Guiuan municipal government and to the community at large in a handover ceremony.
